Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer (June 4, 1984), better known by her stage name Priyamani is an Indian film actress and model who has appeared in several Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Kannada films. She is best known for earning a National Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Muththazhagu in the 2006 Tamil film Paruthi Veeran, and for her role as Malavika in the 2008 Malayalam film Thirakkatha, for which she won the Filmfare Award for Best Malayalam Actress.

Priyamani was born in an Tamil Speaking Iyer family in Palakkad, Kerala, and grew up in Bangalore. As a result of her dynamic exposure in different South Indian states, she speaks Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, and Telugu. After completing her schooling, Priyamani modeled for print advertisements. As a subsequent result of her extended modeling, she began to earn opportunities to star in films. After being approached by several directors and being considered for roles, she finally starred in director Bharathiraja's film Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, which was released in 2004. She is currently completing a B.A. in Psychology. She is the cousin of Bollywood actress Vidya Balan.

Priya Vasudev Mani Iyer was born on 4th June 1984 in Palakkad, Kerala. She is a Tamil Iyer and her parents are Vasudev and Latha. Priyamani is a student of Psychology and spent most of her growing up years in Bangalore.

Priyamani did not meet with success as all her initial releases like Kangalal Kaidhu Sei, Evare Atagaadu and Satyam failed.

Things brightened up with the release of Adhu Oru Kana Kaalam (2005). While she was appreciated as an actress, the movie evoked lukewarm response. In 2006, she delivered a hit Pellaina Kothalo along with her co-star Jagapathi Babu. The movie told the story of a newly wed couple.

Paaruthi Veeran (2006) was a critical success and earned her an Indian National Award, a Filmfare Award and a Tamil Nadu State Film Award for Best Actress. She churned out many more hits like Yamadonga (2007) and Thirakkatha (2008).

She has close to seven releases in 2009 including Mitrudu, Arumugam and Ashokavanam.

After Arya made some negative comments against the Tamil Film Industry, it is the turn of Priyamani to make such comments. She claimed in an interview today that these days not even s single good Tamil film is seeing the light of the day!

“Most of the films that are being released these days are very silly and even though couple of producers came to book me, I rejected them as I did not like the stories” she said. These comments have angered the Tamil Film Industry and they are planning to take some action against her. But there is a small hitch here. While she has films in Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam, she has no single film in Kollywood and even if they ban her, she would not be affected!

Priyamani is currently busy with two films in Telugu. One is Nagarjuna’s ‘Ragada’ and the other is the untitled film opposite Sumanth. This apart, she also acted in 'Rakta Charitra 2' which is expected to hit theaters in 1st week of December.

Now the interesting news is that she is joining hands with the Tamil hero Shaam (‘Kick’ fame), to do yet another Telugu film. This is said to be the female centric film to be directed by a debutant Ganapati Venu. Jagapathi Babu was roped in to play the cameo role. Titled ‘Kshetram’, the film will hit the set on 17th November.
